If the ASB executives are the vital cogs in the machine that is the associated student body, then the commissioners are the oil that greases the machine and keeps it running. Managing the mediocre minutiae of mundane life, the following roles support the student body in niche ways-the publicity commissioner communicating about important events, the athletics commissioner managing student engagement with sports, the community affairs commissioner serving as a liaison to the greater Chico community, and the spirit commissioner working to build school pride. Surprisingly, all candidates for these positions are running uncontested in the 2025 ASB elections, meaning that they win by default. Even more shocking, only two positions are set to be filled, leaving half of the roles unfilled. Thus, instead of just meeting your candidates, you get to get an insider scoop into who will be supporting the student body of CORE Butte High School.
Devon Stewart: Long Time Athlete Leaps Forward to a Managerial Position
The uncontested candidate for the athletics commissioner, Devon Stewart is set to fill the position for the 2025-2026 school year. An weathered athlete, Devon’s knowledge of the field is likely to be a great asset to him during his time serving the CORE community. Earnestly wishing to benefit CORE Butte High School, Devon hopes to raise student involvement in sports, “I just want to promote the sports better and get the student body more involved.”
Faith Rash: The Bright Future of Publicity Commissioning
Sitting in the front of the class during ASB class, Faith Rash has been one of the most involved student representatives in the 2024-2025 school year. Therefore, it is far from surprising that she is set to fill the role of publicity commissioner for the 2025-2026 school year. Her bright and sometimes irreverent personality will serve her will as she works to build community through informing the student body of upcoming events and managing the social media for CORE Butte’s ASB. In a statement to the CORE Insider, Faith shared her goals for unifying the school through information, “I really think we are better as a whole as a school. We just need a way to know about the events.”
Spirit and Community Affairs: Unfilled Positions Open the Door to Chaotic Outcomes
Perhaps the most shocking thing about the entire 2025 ASB election is the lack of candidates. Both the spirit and community affair commissioner positions are left empty for the moment, opening the door for unpredictable futures to take place. While unsuccessful presidential and executive candidates could fill these positions, the possibility of them remaining unfilled until the start of the next school year remains solid. Should the second eventuality come to pass, ASB representatives will have the opportunity to volunteer for these positions, opening the door for an entire other council. One that has been completely replaced and could arguably be a different one.
