A fast food restaurant for fried chicken fingers, Raising Cane’s, opened up January 8th on 20th street. Raising Cane’s is not a new place. It’s a fast food chain all across the United States and people have wished for a location in Chico for a while now. Raising Cane’s is famous for their sauce and that’s why it stands out from competitors.
The price of Raising Cane’s is quite fair for a fast food restaurant. It would make a fantastic place to go for lunch during school. The most popular meal is the Caniac combo, which comes with six chicken fingers, fries, one sauce, Texas toast, cole slaw, and a 32oz drink. The Caniac Combo costs $17.99. This price seems fair as the meal is filling but not overly so.
Taste-wise, I don’t think Cane’s is anything unique. The chicken fingers are of great quality but don’t taste seasoned and there’s no spices or flavor. The chicken has no kick. The sides are all hunky-dory though; the fries are well-salted and crispy, the Texas toast is well-buttered. The sauce isn’t watery and has the seasoning that I think the chicken should’ve had. The people I ate with agreed with my opinion. One saying “I think it has good breading and crispiness. It’s moist but has no flavor- I can taste the bullion or chicken seasoning that’s used, it’s not good… KFC is way better in my opinion.” I agree, sometimes if you get it during a bad time of day, right after school for example; you can get a slight taste of the oil.
Let’s compare Raising Cane’s to other places nearby to CORE. In-N-Out is the same distance from Core as Raising Cane’s, but it’s worlds apart food wise. When it comes to the quality of the food they are very similar, both having great focus on quality, even being part of In-N-Out’s slogan being “Quality you can taste”. In-N-Out also has cheaper prices with you being able to get nearly double the food for the same price, getting a double double meal, fries, and a fountain drink for the same price as a Caniac Combo. Your meal would be a burger, two drinks, and 2 fries. In-N-Out is the better option for school lunch due to the price, since students may not always have money to get the more expensive fast food option as well as wanting to buy food for a friend and you get more bang for your buck.
Comparing Raising Cane’s to KFC, the chicken champion! I think that Raising Cane’s has similar quality but the taste may not be as good but are still similar in taste. KFC’s three-piece tender combo gives you a drink, fries, biscuit and three chicken tenders for $14.19. Cane’s is the better option as you get three extra chicken fingers for a three dollar difference in price while being similar in taste.
Raising Cane’s is a good lunch option for CORE students because it is nearby and is better than some of the competition in the similar range if you can drive.
