Behind the Scenes: How the Yearbook Comes Together
Ever wonder how our yearbook actually gets made? With 21 people and one very patient teacher, it’s safe to say it’s a team effort, with a lot of caffeine, jokes, and deadline stress mixed in.
The yearbook is split into different teams, each focused on a specific part of the project. Mr. Collins acts as the fearless leader (or “boss,”), keeping everyone focused and on track, even when things get a little and a lotta chaotic.
The Photo Team
Our team has around six people who are constantly bouncing around campus at school events like sports games, dances, and club meetings. During class, we sort through dozens, sometimes hundreds of pictures and edit the best ones to be used in the yearbook or posted on the yearbook Instagram. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also fun to see how our photos help capture the school year.
The Graphic Design Team
This team is responsible for the visual style of the book. They create the front and back covers, set the theme, and help design pages throughout the book. When other teams are caught up on their work, they also jump in to help with layouts, which really helps with our workflow.
The Story Team
With only three people, the story team writes short blurbs and stories for both the Instagram page and the actual yearbook. Their job might sound chill, but it’s full of moments like, “Mr. Collins, what do we do?” and his response would be something along the lines like, “Do movies.” Despite the confusion, people on the team do what they think is right, they really bring life and voice to the yearbook’s pages. And if it’s something that doesn’t feel fitting Mr. Collins will head on over and give them a hand or some advice on how to improve.
Are We Efficient?
Short answer: we aren’t really efficient until we need to be.
Long answer: Mr. Collins does his best to keep us on task and make sure we’re meeting deadlines so we’re not scrambling at the last minute. Let’s just say it’s a work in progress, but we get it done.
The End Goal
The final product, the yearbook itself, is scheduled to arrive near the end of the 2025 school year. By then, all our late nights, photo uploads, last-minute edits, and panicked page rearranging will have been worth it.
So when you get your copy, just know: it took a small army of students and one heroic teacher to make it happen.
