CORE students have elected a new ASB president: Lowell Werblow III. He is a well known Junior–senior during his forthcoming year as president, and has plenty of friends around CORE. It is no wonder he was elected president.
Plenty of students have varying opinions on Lowell. I interviewed some of his friends and some people who don’t know him as much about what they think he’ll do as ASB president, and what they think of him being the ASB president.
Some students voted for someone else for president. Roman Nystrom, who knows Lowell through classes, voted for Katelyn Copper, but believes that Lowell is a great fit and will be an involved president. He also thinks all of the candidates were capable. A student who doesn’t know Lowell as well, Brenten Coogan still voted for him as he believed that he was a great pick. Brenten only knew Lowell through Taco Bell jokes and yearbook class. Through this exposure, he learned that Lowell is a very creative person. Brody Kroll didn’t know Lowell until the election, but believed that Lowell was the best choice and voted for him because Lowell said “chicken jockey.” Brenten also believes that Lowell will go far, saying he’s “very enthusiastic. I think it could take him a long way.” This was a common sentiment, that Lowell will be a hard working and enthusiastic ASB president.
Lowell is known for his jestful and loony nature. Lowell’s fellow ASB member, Roman Nystrom, says that he is “bombastic” when asked how he’d describe Lowell. When Brody was asked about why he voted for Lowell, and how he’d describe him, he said, “It feels like he was prepared for his speech and saying chicken jockey made me think he was foolish—but genius.”
Some students believe that Lowell will follow the previous presidents and not do much, but focus on the school events. Some, though, believe that he is enthusiastic enough to try and host more events similar to the spring social.
Ian James, a long-time friend of Lowell’s, ran for president, too, so he could construct more dances and clubs. He thinks that his loss against Lowell was fair and the election’s results were deserved–though believes the outcome would’ve been different if he wasn’t ill and was present for the speeches and that Lowell was chosen due to being well known. Ian was fine with anyone winning the election as he said “I would’ve been fine if either Lowell or Katelyn won, both are good people.”
When Lowell Werblow III was asked how he felt about winning, he said, “I think I’ll be humble about it and say that I did not expect to win.” Other than himself, Lowell thinks that Katelyn Copper was the best pick. “First off, she’s definitely more mature,” Lowell said. “She was also more dedicated to winning.”
Lowell believes that his victory stems from the unplanned part of his speech, when he said, “chicken jockey”– due to the crowd loving it. Lowell’s description of himself is as a “serious goofball.”
