For the first time in the history of CORE Butte High School (pun very much intended), a new US History Dual Enrollment class is being provided by CORE with support from Butte College.
Teacher Daniel Martin has taken on the role of educating students who are enrolled in the course. According to Mr. Martin, the subject matter covered in the class spans the history of the United States from the end of the Civil War up to present-day events.
What is the difference between taking a “regular” or independent study as opposed to this course? Mr. Martin explained that the big difference between these courses is that you earn additional college credits, with some extra work in accordance. These credits apply to general education requirements, and can be a great head start if you are planning on attending college.
How did Mr. Martin get the opportunity to teach this class in the first place? “Timing was a big factor,” Mr. Martin said. “Between finishing my Master’s Degree and the start of Butte College integrating more enrollment classes, it just worked out.” Additionally, Butte College had been seeking opportunities to connect more classes to CORE, to better prepare students for the start of college.
