Ribbon Cutting Marks Official Opening of CORE Butte Sports Complex

CORE Butte’s long-awaited sports complex officially opened Tuesday afternoon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that drew hundreds of parents, students, and community members. Even TK–8 students came out to be part of the event.

The moment the ribbon was cut.

.

Before the ribbon was cut, a talented student band gave a rock performance that set the tone despite a light drizzle in the air. On the field, the CORE Butte soccer team and Quincy warmed up for their game later in the day, while families gathered around tables with snacks, hot dogs, and a celebratory cake decorated for the occasion.

The field, built by Trover Construction with help from landscaping partners, has been in the works for over a decade. School director Mary Cox captured the moment: “For years we’ve dreamed of putting the field here.” She said, “This field shows what’s possible when people come together.”

…and after

At 3:23 p.m., students lined up behind the bright red ribbon. Once it was cut, they poured onto the track surrounding the soccer field for the first official lap, joined by track athletes from Butte College. The moment symbolized exactly what Cox noted: CORE Butte athletes finally have a field to call home, ending years of bouncing between borrowed facilities.
