The CORE Butte cross country team had another solid weekend, competing at the Chico Autumn Invitational today at Hooker Oak Park. Runners from middle school to varsity showed up strong and put down some great times.
In the varsity races, senior Brianna Hayes kept her season rolling with a 4th-place finish in the girls’ 5,000 meters, running 18:55.56. Senior Amanda Mabie finished 13th in the Varsity 4-7 race with a time of 23:21.40, while Katelyn Merrick took 25th in 24:29.10. In the 1-3 division, Katelyn Copper placed 27th in 23:15.58, and teammates Allison Ward (77th, 22:41.92) and Elsa Burke (83rd, 24:43.12) also turned in solid runs.
For the varsity boys, Luke Schooling led the way for CORE Butte, placing 29th in the 1-3 race with a time of 17:52.90. In the 4-7 division, Brian Patton finished 25th in 18:54.04, followed by Adrik Dyer in 44th at 19:20.11. Samuel Boian wrapped it up in 66th with a time of 23:22.32.
The Frosh/Soph boys team put together one of the best results of the day, finishing 5th overall. Lance Tennis led the pack with an impressive 4th-place finish in 11:54.77. Behind him were Clark Goodman (18th, 12:52.13), Josiah Haselton (22nd, 12:54.53), Ethan Gulbrandsen (38th, 13:40.45), and Austin Patane (56th, 15:05.75). Aiden Anderson (65th, 16:21.62) and Abi Gonzalez (67th, 17:36.50) rounded out the lineup.
The middle school boys also brought in strong finishes, placing 4th in both the Open and Top Seven races. In the Top Seven division, Drew Mathis placed 10th with a time of 7:31.97, followed by Beau Aars (21st, 7:43.63), Rio Sinkie (23rd, 7:45.38), Owen Gulbrandsen (27th, 7:53.00), Landon Garaventa (49th, 8:52.60), Jude Macomber (50th, 9:00.30), and Grant Goodman (57th, 9:19.40).
In the Open race, Dezmund McCord came in 8th overall with a time of 8:13.60, followed by Hudson Crowley (22nd, 8:51.90), Leo Clark (24th, 8:59.00), Eric Tennis (27th, 9:04.70), and Benson Gummow (30th, 9:09.20). Other finishers included Frankie Lepe (42nd, 9:33.70), Blake McGarr (44th, 9:45.20), Adrian Lucero (55th, 10:11.20), Cal Henry (57th, 10:24.90), Malakai Zermeno (58th, 10:25.10), Liam Gulbrandsen (63rd, 10:34.00), Rene Castellon Jr. (88th, 12:37.59), and Ethan Flasch (91st, 12:51.74).
The middle school girls’ team placed 5th overall in the Top Seven race. Clarabella Goodman led the group with a 28th-place finish in 9:28.10, followed by Hailey Copper (37th, 9:46.10), Naveene Dietz (38th, 9:49.90), Braelynn Thompson (45th, 10:51.30), and Claire Kerr (49th, 13:01.90).
In the Girls Open race, Danyah Jansen placed 48th in 11:52.70, Daphne Petlock took 66th in 13:52.50, and Avery Mathis finished 67th in 14:01.50, wrapping up a strong meet for the younger runners.
From varsity to middle school, CORE Butte showed consistency and growth at every level. Go Lynx!
