Butte County can feel a little… bored at times, but Halloween is not one of them. With so many events creeping up around the corner, it’s hard to decide what to do. Here’s a list of five fun activities to make the most of this holiday season.
1. Pumpkin patches
Picking my own pumpkins and getting to carve or decorate them is my personal favorite thing to do before Halloween. The fun games and the weather make the perfect environment for the season. Some great pumpkin patches to visit in Butte County are: Books Family Farms in Durham, Max’s Miracle Ranch in Biggs, and Patrick Ranch Museum in Durham.
2. Haunted Corn Maze
Country Pumpkins in Orland haunts their corn maze on select weekends in October (10-11th, 17-18th, and 24-25th). For $15, you can find your way through the dark maze while actors scare and chase you with props and chainsaws. Afterwards, you can take photos with the actors! The line opens at 7 pm and closes at 10 pm
3. Movies in the Park
Watch the classic film The Nightmare Before Christmas on October 24th at Degarmo Park for free. All you need is a place to sit. If you get there at five, you can participate in a scavenger hunt, costume contest, face painting, and games around the park before the movie begins sometime between 7 pm and 8 pm.

4. Treat Street
While it is primarily for younger kids, it is still an enjoyable event for teens like us. Trick-or-treat at participating businesses, enjoy live music, and flaunt your Halloween spirit in a costume contest. From 2-5 pm on Halloween Day in Downtown Chico.
5. Chico High Halloween Haunt
On Thursday, October 30th, you can watch a performance of “10 Ways To Survive The Zombie Apocalypse” by CHS Theater for $5, and travel through a haunted maze for $10. While these attractions cost money, the rest of the event is free. There will be free food, treats, games, crafts, and live performances by Chico High students in the CHS courtyard from 6:30-9:30 pm.
CORE High, what are you doing for Halloween?
