The quadrennial United States presidential election took place on Nov. 5, 2024, resulting in Donald John Trump being declared president-elect. The CORE Butte Insider surveyed students for their opinions on this newsworthy event. Student reactions to the upcoming Trump presidency ranged from excitement over his policy to concern over how the election has impacted the student body at CORE Butte Charter School.
“I believe that Trump will make a good president as I believe he will help keep America out of war which would save lives, he will work to create an environment that lifts people out of poverty permanently, and he will work to improve the health of the people of America. My hope is primarily to see a reduction in government. This would lead to less debt, more freedom in society, and more money to spend on other causes.” -Lily Kruger, 12th grade“I would say that the election had the effect I expected. There was evidence for how each side would run the country, so it was based on policies. I would say that I am conservative. I don’t like Donald Trump as a person, I like his policy.” -Brooke Tollefsen, 11th grade“I am glad that the left didn’t win the election but at the same time it kind of feels like the people of America chose the lesser of two evils. I think the economy is going to rise and inflation is going to go down because the president elect knows how to run a business and a nation is just a really large business. I think that the coming presidency can bring some great change that our nation needs.” -Jonathan Jueckstock, 12th grade“I expect that Trump will be a good leader for our country and I hope that he leads our nation in a positive way, not just in the economy but also in the social areas. I feel like I agree with many of the decisions that he has made so far in leading our country four years ago, and I expect to agree with most of the decisions he will make in his upcoming term.” -Henry Watkins, 11th grade
