On Thursday April 10, students will cast their votes to determine who will serve on the executive council for the CORE Butte Associated Student Body for the academic year of 2025-2026. During homeroom on the same day, running candidates will give short speeches, which must be approved by Kirsten Frudden, the ASB teacher adviser.
The election will determine who will fill both executive and commissioner positions in ASB for the 2025-2026 school year. Executive roles come with both great power and responsibility. The elected president and vice president will be tasked with conducting ASB meetings as well as representing the CORE Butte ASB as a member of the Charter Advisory Council. The secretary has the responsibility of keeping a full and complete record of ASB meetings. The treasurer manages all of ASB’s funds and keeps the ASB representatives abreast of the financial status of ASB.
Meanwhile, the commissioners wield less power but have less responsibility on their plate. The publicity and communications commissioner is charged with managing the social media for CORE Butte ASB and creating promotional material. In a similar vein, the community affairs commissioner organizes events that develop community and connection among the student body of CORE Butte High School. Holding similar responsibilities, the spirit commissioner organizes events that help build school pride such as student rallies and spirit weeks throughout the year. Working alongside the spirit commissioner, the sports commissioner helps build school support for athletics, helping manage a snack bar and accurate schedule of upcoming sports events for students to support their team.
When asked about what advice she would give to students considering who they are voting for, Mrs. Frudden refused to comment, reflecting on the importance of independence in such important internal student matters, “It’s all student driven.”
