While the ASB president holds compelling power, they require help from executive members of the associated student body to accomplish their goals. These positions-vice president, treasurer, and secretary-help facilitate the goals of the ASB president and the representatives as a whole, allowing ASB to create unforgettable celebrations such as prom and winter formal as well as important fundraising events such as Pennies for Patients. Needless to say, it is very important to know who is running for what position. Even if a candidate is running uncontested, students should be familiar with their respective policy and goals. Thankfully, the CORE Insider got exclusive interviews with candidates for ASB’s executive positions, so all you need to do is sit back with a nice cup of tea (or a soda, we don’t judge here at the Insider) and read on to prepare yourself for the 2025 executive ASB elections, set to take place on April 10.
The Vice President Race: Stacey Hickman vs. Steiger Jacobsen
Two current ASB representatives go head-to-head in the campaign for vice president and the power that comes with the position. In this race for the coveted seat besides the president where only one can prevail, voters are faced with a difficult choice between fluidity and reliability, marking the differing promises of the candidates. Stacey believes that her flexibility makes her a good candidate, saying “I’m open minded so I will listen to lots of people’s ideas.” On the other hand, Steiger is relying on his strengths to carry him across the finish line, “I’m able to think through problems and problem solve to assist the president in all their acts.”
The Uncontested Treasurer: Jet Young Brings Youthful Unpredictability to the Role
As the only candidate running for the ASB treasurer position in the 2025 ASB elections, Jet has been elected by default to the position of treasurer for the 2025-2026 school year, placing him in charge of the associated student body’s funds as it works to create memorable events to give exhausted students a brief reprieve from the chaos of high school life. Speaking of chaos, few words describe Jett better than chaotic. In an interview with a reporter for the CORE Insider, Jett explained what made him a qualified treasurer, “I’m committed, and a bunch of other stuff I wrote down.”
The Secretary Dilemma: A Seat left Unfilled
Shockingly, there are no candidates running for secretary in the 2025 ASB executive election, leaving this seat untended for the moment. Thankfully, there is a contingency that comes into play in these unlikely circumstances. As explained by the teacher adviser to ASB Kirsten Frudden, an unelected candidate for a different position has an opportunity to fill an empty slot, “If you don’t get into your elected position, you have a shot of getting into an empty position.” If the secretary position remains unfilled even after that comes into play, then ASB representatives for the 2025-2026 school year will be offered a chance to serve as the secretary through internal process and determination. Until then, however, the throne of secretary is left barren.
