CORE Butte High School’s music class is more than just a group of talented students, it’s a collaborative space where young musicians grow together. This class has been a cornerstone for creativity, bringing students together through their shared passion for music.
This year, the class is divided into four bands, each with its own style. The bands’ music ranges from indie to pop to rock as of now, but songs change as the year goes on and as the students recommend different genres to play. With each band selecting its own setlist, the creativity and vibes don’t stop! This creative freedom allows students to explore their musical interests, like when one band experimented with a reggae version of a classic rock song, which brought laughter and a sense of unity to their practice sessions.
Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM are dedicated to Music Class, where each band practices for about an hour to prepare for upcoming performances that are always at the end of the learning period. These regular sessions not only hone their musical abilities, but also create an environment where students connect and collaborate with each other.
One of the class’s standout moments this school year was their performance during the Christmas Preview at the Naked Lounge. The festive night featured a variety of holiday favorites, including “Santa Baby,” “Last Christmas,” and the even popular “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” The cozy, welcoming atmosphere of the cafe made it the perfect setting for a night of holiday cheer, with students and audience members alike embracing the spirit of the season.

One of the bands, Purgatory, performed “Santa Baby” at the Christmas Preview. “The Christmas Preview performance was truly special,” said Wyatt Sampietro. “The band’s energy and enthusiasm lit up the room and made the night unforgettable.”
Performances like these aren’t just about showcasing talent; they reflect the hard work behind the scenes. The rehearsal when Red 41 spent a few hours perfecting their song for “Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer”, ensured every note resonated with the holiday spirit, preparing for the Christmas Preview! Whether it is selecting songs, coordinating instruments, or perfecting songs, every band member plays a role in ensuring their performances are memorable. The process teaches not only musical skills, but also valuable lessons in teamwork and communication. These qualities shine through in every performance, making the music class a defining part of CORE Butte’s creative culture.
