CORE volleyball varsity girls defeated the Chester Volcanoes in straight sets on Tuesday night, finishing with scores of 25-20, 25-10, and 25-10.
The opening set started evenly, with both teams trading points to a 5-5 tie. CORE Butte, playing as the visitors, began to pull ahead 10-14, eventually extending the lead to 16-23. A highlight came when seniors Gracie Rabo, Allison Freimuth, and Zoe Newton made an impressive save, keeping the ball from touching the floor and tipping it over the net to secure a key point. The Lynx went on to take the first set 25-20.
CORE Butte carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 1-7 lead and maintaining strong energy throughout. Their offense and defense stayed sharp as they pushed the score to 2–10 and later 7-19, ultimately winning the set 25-10.
In the third and final set, the Lynx once again took an early lead 3-7, then extended it to 3-11 and 8-20. Despite a short rally from Chester, CORE Butte closed the game confidently, finishing 25-10.
