As part of ELA teacher Jera Verboom’s English 9 unit on Romeo and Juliet, students were asked to select a scene from the play, rewrite it in a new setting and time period of their choice, and then produce their script as a final creative project.
This original LEGO stop-motion film reimagines Act 3, Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet in the Star Wars universe. Set on the planet Corellia, freshmen Eli Triggs, Zack Trinca, Landon King, and Heath Douglass transformed Shakespeare’s pivotal confrontation between Romeo, Mercutio, and Tybalt into an epic galactic battle featuring Han Solo, Boba Fett, Anakin, the Dark Trooper, and the Senate Commando.
This project represents an extraordinary technical and creative achievement, requiring over 30 hours of stop-motion animation, nearly 2,000 individual photos, and additional hours of editing, voice recording, and sound design. Through this innovative adaptation, these students demonstrated a deep understanding of the play’s central conflict, character motivations, and enduring themes while bringing Shakespeare’s drama to life in an impressive way!

Incredible stop motion animation! As someone who has never seen Star Wars, I’m having a hard time making the leap to Romeo and Juliet, but if it makes sense to y’all, I say giddyup!

They rewrote the fighting scene from Romeo & Juliet in a Star Wars theme with Star Wars characters. Their script was awesome, and then they produced this stop motion based on their script.
