CORE Butte track & field competed at the Gary Burton Invitational on May 1 at Corning High School. Here are the highlights:
Junior Brianna Hayes won the varsity girls 800 meters in 2:19.11 and anchored the winning 4×400 relay with senior Katelyn Merrick, senior Amanda Mabie, and senior Katelyn Copper in 4:29.60. Sophomore Ashlynn Hayes won the varsity girls 400 meters in a personal-best 1:05.19. Senior Karisa Walborn won the varsity girls triple jump with a personal-best 34 feet 3 inches.
At the junior varsity level, sophomore Gavin McGarr won the boys high jump at 5 feet 3 inches and the triple jump at 39 feet 1 inch. Sophomore Taylee Aars won both the girls junior varsity long jump at 16 feet and triple jump at 32 feet 5.5 inches.
Junior Julia Spears placed second in the varsity girls 100 meters in 13.34 and second in the long jump at 16 feet 9 inches. Freshman Lance Tennis placed second in the boys junior varsity 800 meters in 2:18.64.
The CORE Butte girls 4×400 relay won first place. The boys junior varsity 4×400 relay team of sophomore Joshua Iler, freshman Zachary Trinca, freshman Lance Tennis, and sophomore Benjamin Feather placed third.
Senior Apple Bolton tied for third in the high jump and placed seventh in discus. Junior Macey Layfield placed third in shot put. Junior Carsten Balint placed fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.
