The esports team has been fighting hard, playing a famous game known as Smash Bros. Meeting up every week, to compete with other schools online, having close matches, many wins, and a few losses. Despite competing against 185 teams throughout California. They have done amazing throughout the regular season, holding first place almost the entire time, and easily making it to the playoffs.
However, once the playoffs came around, things got much more difficult. All the top teams that made it were put into a tournament bracket, and our team had much closer and riskier games. They made it as far as the semi-finals, ultimately losing to Pleasant Valley High School (PVHS), which was the team that went on to win the finals.
A regular season goes from January 22 through March 19, and there are playoffs, which go by a single elimination playstyle. These playoffs could continue for as many as three weeks after the end of the regular season.
CORE’s main players are Abby Eastman and Elliott Kysar, along with their bench players Dorian Dietz, Mac Arvenon, and Josh Metzger. The league they all participated in was the “CIF Esports Initiative x NASEF – Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate JV.”
