CORE Butte’s cross country team turned in a strong showing yesterday at the 1st Annual Liam Sehorn Invitational at Butte College. The team title of the girls varsity race was won by CORE with 35 points, led by senior Brianna Hayes, who took the individual win in 17:59.15. Scoring behind her were Katelyn Copper (4th, 21:28.96), Amanda Mabie (8th, 22:25.46), Katelyn Merrick (22nd, 24:50.37), and Eliana Feather (23rd, 24:58.07).
On the boys side, senior Adrik Dyer placed 8th in 17:32.87, with Brian Patton 21st in 18:30.81. CORE Butte also claimed the Frosh/Soph boys team title with 24 points, as Luke Schooling won the race in 10:18.90 and Lance Tennis took second in 11:01.69. Key finishes that sealed the team win included Josiah Haselton (6th, 11:25.77), Clark Goodman (9th, 11:29.51), Ethan Gulbrandsen (25th, 13:07.17), and Austin Patane (30th, 13:24.06).

In the middle school races, CORE Butte’s boys placed third as a team, paced by Drew Mathis in 3rd (11:23.06) and Beau Aars in 10th (11:56.65). The middle school girls were led by solid runs from Clarabella Goodman (13th, 14:13.71) and Hailey Copper (18th, 14:33.68), with more scoring help from Lily Kate Haselton (30th, 15:23.02).

Between Hayes’ varsity win, Schooling’s Frosh/Soph win, and two team trophies, the CORE Butte cross country team left Butte College with momentum heading into the next meet.
