The CORE Butte boys’ basketball team played its first game of the season on December 1st, where they took a 53-38 loss to Providence in a non-conference matchup.
Providence established control early, as they outscored 9-7 in the first quarter and 14-9 in the second. CORE Butte went into halftime down 23-16. The third quarter proved decisive, as Providence produced its strongest stretch with 16 points while CORE Butte managed eight. Both teams scored 14 in the fourth quarter, but the earlier deficit held.
The loss gives CORE Butte a 0-1 start overall and 0-1 on the road. Providence moves to 1-0.
The Lynx and Lions are scheduled to meet again on January 8, when CORE Butte will host Providence in Chico.
For their next game, CORE Butte will host Paradise Adventist on Wednesday, December 3nd, at 5:00 p.m.
