CORE Butte basketball competed in a league triple-header Friday, Jan. 30, at Los Molinos High School. All three teams, the JV boys, varsity girls, and varsity boys, played.

JV

Our JV team fell 80-28 to the Los Molinos Bulldogs in the opening game of the day at 3:30 p.m. Los Molinos controlled the game from start to finish, handing the Lynx their ninth loss of the season.

The result dropped this team to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in league play, while Los Molinos improved to 13-5 overall. The Bulldogs also completed a season sweep of the Lynx, having won the earlier matchup 79-38 on Jan. 13.

GV

The girls earned a 40-29 league win over Los Molinos in the second game of the triple-header. CORE Butte led 15-10 after the first quarter and closed the game strong with an 18-point fourth quarter to secure the victory.

The win evened GV’s season record at 7-7 and served as a bounce-back after a loss earlier in the week. It also marked a reversal from the teams’ previous meeting on Jan. 13, when Los Molinos defeated CORE Butte 29–27.

In the final game of the night, CORE’s varsity boys lost 50-31 to Los Molinos. The defeat marked the Lynx’s 18th straight loss of the season, which drops their record to 0-18.

Los Molinos completed the season sweep after also winning the first meeting between the teams 51-24 earlier in January. The Bulldogs improved to 10-11 overall with the victory.

CORE Butte basketball continues league play next week. There’s an away matchup with Chester HS on February 3rd, and a home game on the 6th against Redding Christian HS, both start off at 3:00 p.m.
