The annual Butte County Office of Education High School Art Show has been exhibiting artworks from various high schools in the county since Feb. 20th and will continue until Mar. 12th. Hosted by the California County Superintendents’ Arts Initiative, the gallery is located in the Arts and Humanities Building at Chico State campus, open for all art enthusiasts to see.
Art teachers from each school have selected up to five works for exhibition, creating a collection as diverse and dynamic as the students themselves.
Mary Sakuma, Butte County Superintendent of Schools, emphasized the importance of these showcases: “The arts are a very important part of our culture and society. When we teach and encourage creativity, imagination, and innovation through the arts, we open up the world to our children. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and develop through the arts.”
This year, two of our fellow talented CORE students have had their artworks submitted to the show: Seniors Emma Diaz-Infante, with her detailed painting of classical dancer Colleena Shakti, and Michael DeSimone’s eerie clown sculpture.
The Insider presents the following pictures of their pieces, along with the rest of the exhibition, but encourages readers to view the real thing in person. Gallery hours are 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, with extended hours on Thursday until 8:00 p.m.
