The CORE Butte softball team opened its 2026 season Mar. 5 with a 29-11 loss to Plumas Charter in a non-conference game.
The game marked the program’s first season playing on its home field at the new sports complex, which was completed last September. However, CORE Butte was unable to capitalize on the home-field advantage in the opener.
Plumas Charter used a dominant second inning to take control of the game. After scoring five runs in the first, the Warriors added 13 runs in the second inning and never gave up the lead. They went on to score in each of the first five innings, finishing with 29 runs on 12 hits and committing two errors.
The CORE Butte softball team responded with two runs in the first inning and delivered its strongest in the third, scoring nine runs. However, CORE was held scoreless in the last two innings. The team finished with 11 runs on three hits and did not commit an error.
Plumas Charter drew 26 walks as a team and stole 11 bases, consistently pressuring the CORE Butte defense. The Warriors also recorded a home run as part of their offensive surge.
In the circle, Plumas Charter’s pitching staff combined to allow three hits over five innings while striking out nine. The Warriors’ pitchers limited damage outside of the Lynx’s nine-run third inning.
The loss marks a challenging start for the CORE Butte softball team.
CORE Butte will look to rebound when it hosts Princeton at 2 p.m. on Mar. 9.
