Pokémon is easily one of the biggest franchises on the planet. They have many shows, a large trading card game, and, most prominently known, their games, which have all been going on for 30 years now.
There have been 38 games released over the years, but only 9 generations so far. All of the generations get split up into 2-4 games that follow slightly different stories, but still keep the main core of that generation. There is a new generation coming soon, being Gen 10, finally hitting the double digits for Pokémon.
While the Gen 10 Pokémon Winds & Waves games are not out yet, the starters (which are the Pokémon you pick from the beginning of the game and stick with as they evolve throughout the game) have been announced for the generation, the opinions on them are quite controversial. Each of them being Browt the Grass-type, Pombon the Fire-type, and Gecqua the Water-type.
CORE insider had gotten the opinions of the E-sports team, and their thoughts on the new starters. Many people, both online and in the club, are worried about the future evolutions of the Pokémon and whether they will get worse or better. The main worry for future evolutions was that they would evolve to stand on 2 legs or would not look anything like the original.
The opinion is somewhat split both online and in our school, leaning slightly towards not liking them and worrying about what they look like later. Dorian Dietz had even gone so far as to say, “I hate them, they look horrible and look like normal animals that were dyed!” A few people say and agree that Browt just looks like an angry bird, and Pombon just looks like a fluffy orange pomeranian, even though its name plays off of the poofy dog breed.
Despite the tough time everyone gives them, much like many of the previous generations, they will indefinitely be loved by the community when the games finally come out.
