The CORE Butte softball team fell to Redding Christian 23-9 in a home conference game on April 14.
Redding Christian scored five runs in the first inning and added two more in the second. After CORE responded with a four-run second inning to cut into the deficit, Redding Christian broke the game open with a seven-run third and a nine-run fourth inning.
CORE finished with 9 runs on 7 hits. The Lynx were patient at the plate, drawing 14 walks and posting a .676 on-base percentage as a team. Their most productive innings came in the second and fourth, where they combined for eight of their nine runs.
Junior Faith Rash led their offense; she went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBIs, including a double. Freshman Layla Chapman added two hits, two runs, and an RBI, and senior Hazel England contributed a hit, two runs, and an RBI.
In the circle, the Lynx used three pitchers. Mara Gonzalez opened with a scoreless inning and two strikeouts, but Redding Christian capitalized later, finishing with 23 runs on 10 hits. On the defensive, CORE committed three errors.
Next up, the team will play a road conference game at Redding Christian on May 7.
