I-ready is a learning tool that is used by many many schools across the United States and is seen as a great educational website that has much to offer. At CORE Butte, it was used for testing a couple years ago. However, our school switched to IXL, moving away from I-ready completely. Despite some students hating IXL, looking back now, it may be a good thing that we made that switch, primarily because I-ready is currently facing a lawsuit.
Technically, I-ready itself is not exactly facing a lawsuit, however its parent company, ‘Curriculum Associates,’ is under a lawsuit for allegedly selling students personal data. The case began on December 22, 2025 and is still going on, but did not get much attention at first. However, more suspicion has been raised in the past month, with many parents and even teachers worrying about I-ready being used to sell data. While the company completely denies those claims, the case is ongoing, and they could be in a deep spot if things go further. Student data is very personal, and it is what holds together many schools as well as letting the school make informed, objective decisions that improve learning outcomes.
Roughly 13 to 14 million students across the country use I-ready, but that number is slowly dropping thanks to the lawsuit. With no concrete proof yet, there is no way to know how bad this lawsuit can get. However, selling student data could be sued for about $750 for each case. So even if only half of the students on the platform had their data sold, it would cost I-ready 5,250,000,000
