The CORE Butte softball team lost a 16-2 home non-conference game to Willows on Thursday, April 9.
Willows scored two runs in the first inning, five in the second, and five more in the third, building an early lead. The Honkers (yes, that’s what they’re called) added three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to finish with 16 runs on 8 hits. CORE scored once in the second inning and again in the fourth, ending with 2 runs on 7 hits.
Despite the loss, CORE Butte had several productive performances at the plate. Senior Emma Bowles went 2 for 3 with a double and scored a run, while junior Mara Gonzalez went 1 for 3 with a triple. Freshman Janisia Olivo added a hit and scored a run, and junior Faith Rash also recorded a hit. The team finished with seven total hits, including one double and one triple.
With the result, CORE Butte moves to 0-13 on the season, while Willows improves to 2-15. The team will next face Redding Christian in Five Star League play.
