At the Chico Invitational on April 11, hosted at Chico High School’s stadium, our CORE Butte athletes turned in several strong marks across varsity and JV events.
In the boys sprints, junior Elijah Hastain placed 29th in the varsity 100 meters in 12.75, and sophomore Jaxson Lea took 11th in the JV 100 in 12.64 and 20th in the JV 200 in 26.67.
In the boys 400 meters, freshman Nathan Hernandez finished 17th in the JV race in 1:05.89, and freshman Austin Patane was 18th in 1:06.11.
In the boys 800 meters, senior Brian Patton had one of CORE Butte’s top finishes of the day by taking second in the varsity race in 2:01.68. Junior Samuel Boian placed seventh in 2:07.10. In the JV 800, freshman Zachary Trinca finished sixth in 2:22.30, and freshman Josiah Haselton placed 17th in 2:35.57.
In the boys 1600 meters, sophomore Luke Schooling placed 10th in the varsity race with a 4:47.42, and senior Adrik Dyer finished 24th in 5:10.74. In the JV 1600, freshman Zachary Trinca took ninth in 5:15.17, and freshman Josiah Haselton placed 19th in 5:28.01.
In the boys 3200 meters, sophomore Luke Schooling placed 10th in the varsity race in 10:38.67.
In the boys hurdles, sophomore Joshua Iler placed fifth in the JV 110 hurdles in 18.66.
In the boys relays, the CORE Butte varsity 4×400 team of junior Samuel Boian, sophomore Luke Schooling, junior Elijah Hastain, and senior Brian Patton finished sixth in 3:52.81.
In the boys jumps, junior Carsten Balint tied for eighth in varsity high jump by clearing 5 feet 4 inches. In JV high jump, sophomore Jaxson Lea cleared 5 feet to place sixth, freshman Isaac Bolton was ninth at 4 feet 8 inches, and freshman Josiah Haselton placed 15th at 4 feet 2 inches. In varsity long jump, junior Carsten Balint placed seventh with a personal best of 18 feet 4 inches. In JV long jump, sophomore Gavin McGarr finished seventh at 17 feet 2.25 inches and freshman Isaac Bolton was 17th at 15 feet. In varsity triple jump, Carsten placed 10th at 34 feet 6 inches. In JV triple jump, Gavin took third with 35 feet 6 inches.
In the boys throws, freshman Isaac Bolton placed 14th in the JV discus with a mark of 70 feet 5 inches.
For the CORE Butte girls sprinters, junior Julia Spears placed sixth in the varsity 100 in 13.55. In the JV 100, freshman Gabriella Jarvis finished 15th in 14.92, sophomore Clover Bailey was 16th in 14.93, and freshman Maggie Boian placed 19th in 15.51. In the JV 200, Gabriella placed 14th in 31.32 and Clover was 16th in 31.57.
In the girls distance races, senior Brianna Hayes placed second in the varsity 800 in 2:19.64. Senior Katelyn Merrick finished 10th in 2:39.63, senior Amanda Mabie placed 11th in 2:41.14, and senior Eliana Feather was 18th in 3:03.96. In the JV 800, sophomore Serina Rogers finished 10th in 2:50.27 and sophomore Emily Knoch placed 23rd in 3:14.37. In the varsity 1600, senior Brianna Hayes took second again with a 4:57.51, Amanda Mabie placed 15th in 5:55.01, senior Katelyn Copper was 17th in 6:02.55, and senior Eliana Feather placed 23rd in 6:37.46.
In the girls hurdles, senior Karisa Walborn placed fifth in the varsity 100 hurdles in 18.64. Senior Zoe Newton was 10th in 20.89, and senior Elsa Burke placed 12th in 22.23. In the varsity 300 hurdles, Elsa finished 10th in 1:15.02.
In the girls relays, the CORE Butte JV 4×100 team of sophomore Clover Bailey, sophomore Taylee Aars, freshman Maggie Boian, and freshman Gabriella Jarvis placed fifth in 56.56. In the varsity 4×400, seniors Ashlynn Hayes, Katelyn Merrick, Amanda Mabie, and Brianna Hayes finished fifth in 4:43.10.
In the girls throws, junior Macey Layfield placed sixth in varsity shot put with 29 feet 10.5 inches, junior Faith Rash was 12th at 25 feet 3 inches, and senior Katie Schneider placed 18th at 20 feet 10 inches. In JV shot put, freshman Brielle Balint took 10th with a personal best of 23 feet 8.5 inches, and sophomore Daisy Kammerer placed 16th at 21 feet 3 inches. In varsity discus, senior Apple Bolton finished sixth with 90 feet 10 inches, and Katie placed 14th with 69 feet 5 inches. In JV discus, Daisy was 12th with 63 feet and Brielle placed 20th with 40 feet.
In the girls jumps, senior Karisa Walborn tied for eighth in varsity high jump at 4 feet 4 inches, and senior Bella Haselton placed 11th at 4 feet. In varsity long jump, junior Julia Spears finished sixth with 14 feet 8.25 inches, Karisa placed ninth with 13 feet 11.75 inches, junior Macey Layfield was 11th with a personal best of 13 feet 0.25 inches, and junior Elizabeth Jueckstock placed 13th at 12 feet 7 inches. In JV long jump, sophomore Taylee Aars finished fifth with 14 feet 1 inch, freshman Maggie Boian was 13th with a personal best of 13 feet 2.75 inches, sophomore Serina Rogers placed 14th at 13 feet 2.25 inches, and sophomore Emily Knoch was 18th at 10 feet 3.5 inches.
In the girls triple jump, senior Karisa Walborn won the varsity title with a mark of 30 feet 1.5 inches. Senior Katelyn Merrick placed third at 29 feet 6 inches, junior Elizabeth Jueckstock was fifth at 27 feet 3.5 inches, and senior Bella Haselton placed ninth at 23 feet 7.75 inches. In the JV triple jump, sophomore Taylee Aars won with a jump of 30 feet 8 inches.
