At the Nor Cal Small Schools Invitational on April 17 at Chico High School, the CORE Butte track & field team turned in another strong day.
In the boys sprints, junior Elijah Hastain placed 17th in the varsity 100 meters in 12.36 and eighth in the varsity 200 in a personal-best 24.57. In the junior varsity sprints, sophomore Jaxson Lea placed 12th in the 100 in 12.66 and seventh in the 200 in 25.84, while freshman Austin Patane was 30th in the 100 in 13.38 and 29th in the 200 in 28.54. Freshman Nathan Hernandez placed 31st in the 100 in 13.47 and 30th in the 200 in a personal-best 28.55.
In the boys 400 meters, freshman Logan Lassonde placed 24th in the junior varsity race in 1:20.33.
In the boys 800 meters, senior Brian Patton won the varsity title in 2:03.93, and junior Samuel Boian placed third in 2:08.51. In the junior varsity 800, freshman Zachary Trinca won in 2:26.51 and freshman Lance Tennis placed second in 2:28.00.
In the boys 1600 meters, junior Samuel Boian placed third in the varsity race with a personal-best 4:57.83, and senior Adrik Dyer placed ninth in a personal-best 5:07.74. In the junior varsity 1600, Zachary Trinca won in a personal-best 5:13.96, Ethan Gulbrandsen placed eighth in 5:43.91, and Abi Gonzalez finished 25th in 6:44.99.
In the boys 3200 meters, Lance Tennis placed second in the junior varsity race in a personal-best 11:42.60.
In the boys hurdles, junior Carsten Balint placed third in the varsity 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best 18.80. In the junior varsity 110 hurdles, freshman Cody Martin placed seventh in a personal-best 20.57. In the junior varsity 300 hurdles, sophomore Benjamin Feather placed second in 46.62.
In the boys relays, the CORE Butte varsity 4×400 team of Elijah Hastain, Adrik Dyer, Samuel Boian, and Brian Patton placed third in 3:53.08. The junior varsity 4×100 team of Jaxson Lea, Austin Patane, Gavin McGarr, and Benjamin Feather placed fourth in 51.52, while the junior varsity 4×400 team placed first in 4:09.05.
In the boys field events, Abi Gonzalez placed 24th in junior varsity shot put with a mark of 26 feet 1 inch, and Jackson Stover placed 17th in junior varsity discus with a personal-best 67 feet 1 inch. In the jumps, Jaxson Lea tied for first in junior varsity high jump by clearing 5 feet 4 inches. Carsten Balint placed sixth in varsity long jump with 18 feet 1 inch and third in varsity triple jump with 35 feet 11.5 inches. In junior varsity jumps, Gavin McGarr placed 11th in long jump with 15 feet 7.5 inches and second in triple jump with 35 feet 10 inches, while Logan Lassonde placed 24th in long jump at 8 feet 6 inches.
For the girls sprinters, junior Julia Spears placed fifth in the varsity 100 in 13.39. Senior Ashlynn Hayes placed 21st in the varsity 100 in a personal-best 14.58. In the junior varsity 100, Gabriella Jarvis placed seventh in a personal-best 14.16, Clover Bailey was 13th in a personal-best 14.37, Maggie Boian placed 19th in a personal-best 14.93, Charlie Jonsson was 34th in a personal-best 16.18, and Addison Hutts placed 36th in a personal-best 16.39. In the junior varsity 200, Gabriella placed sixth in a personal-best 30.06, Clover was seventh in a personal-best 30.13, Addison finished 31st in 35.64, and Allison Ward placed 35th in 44.93.
In the girls 400 meters, senior Brianna Hayes won the varsity race in 1:01.65, and senior Katelyn Merrick placed seventh in 1:11.18. In the junior varsity 400, Charlie Jonsson placed 13th in a personal-best 1:20.34.
In the girls 800 meters, senior Amanda Mabie won the varsity title in a personal-best 2:35.41. Katelyn Merrick placed third in 2:41.47, Katelyn Copper placed eighth in 2:51.52, and Eliana Feather placed 13th in 2:59.04. In the junior varsity 800, Serina Rogers placed third in 2:56.76 and Emily Knoch placed 14th in 3:19.50.
In the girls 1600 meters, Katelyn Copper placed seventh in 6:16.39 and Eliana Feather placed eighth in a personal-best 6:29.84.
In the girls 3200 meters, Brianna Hayes won the varsity race in a personal-best 11:15.26.
In the girls hurdles, Ashlynn Hayes placed third in the varsity 100 hurdles in 17.69, Karisa Walborn placed fourth in a personal-best 17.70, and Zoe Newton finished 10th in 20.10. In the varsity 300 hurdles, Ashlynn placed third in 49.97 and Zoe took ninth in 1:04.07.
In the girls relays, the junior varsity 4×100 team of Clover Bailey, Taylee Aars, Maggie Boian, and Gabriella Jarvis placed second in 57.11.
In the girls throws, Macey Layfield placed fifth in varsity shot put with 28 feet 10.5 inches. Emma Bowles was 17th at 22 feet 11.5 inches, and Katie Schneider placed 20th at 21 feet 8 inches. In junior varsity shot put, Brielle Balint placed eighth with 22 feet 4.5 inches. In varsity discus, Apple Bolton won with a personal-best 104 feet 8 inches, Katie Schneider placed 10th with 72 feet 9 inches, and Emma Bowles placed 13th with 70 feet 2 inches. In junior varsity discus, Brielle Balint placed seventh with a personal-best 58 feet 3 inches.
In the girls jumps, Apple Bolton placed second in varsity high jump by clearing 4 feet 8 inches, Karisa Walborn placed eighth at 4 feet 2 inches, and Bella Haselton tied for ninth at 4 feet. Emery Dyer placed 12th in junior varsity high jump at 3 feet 8 inches. In varsity long jump, Julia Spears placed first with 15 feet 10.25 inches, Karisa Walborn was fourth at 14 feet 10.5 inches, and Apple Bolton placed 10th at 13 feet 11.5 inches. In junior varsity long jump, Taylee Aars placed third at 14 feet 1 inch, Maggie Boian was ninth at 12 feet 5.5 inches, and Serina Rogers placed 15th at 11 feet 1.5 inches. In varsity triple jump, Karisa Walborn won with a personal-best 32 feet 4.5 inches, and Bella Haselton placed fifth at 23 feet 3.75 inches. In junior varsity triple jump, Taylee Aars won with 31 feet 0.25 inches, and Emery Dyer placed seventh at 21 feet 7.5 inches.
